SNCA Archivist's Happy Hour

5-7:30pm @ Pitt Street Brewing Company

THURSDAY, MAY 22_____________________

Repository Tours

2pm @ Multiple Locations

On Wednesday afternoon after sessions end, SNCA invites you to unwind with your fellow archivists at the local craft beer production facility and taproom, Pitt Street Brewing Company.

Located in the former Coca-Cola Bottling Company building, Pitt Street Brewing Company is a go-to location for all residing in or visiting Greenville. The historic building was built in 1926, with a two-story addition added in 1935. Today, the structure is recognized as part of the Dickinson Avenue National Register Historic District and continues to dazzle guests with much of the structure’s original interior and exterior. We cannot wait to share one of Greenville’s best historic landmarks with you.

SNCA will provide heavy hors d’oeuvres courtesy of Rock Spring Center, one of Greenville’s premier catering services. SNCA will also provide two drink tickets to each attendee, which are good for beer, seltzer, and soda. Water will also be available for guests.

The walk from ECU’s Joyner Library is right at a mile away and takes about 15 minutes. Alternatively, you are welcome to drive over, but parking is limited. 15 spaces in the parking lot next to Pitt Street Brewing Company are for public use, but be sure not to park in the “Reserved” spaces as those are for the apartment residents, and you will be towed. There are 3 pay-to-park parking lots you may utilize. One is across from Strangedbird on Dickinson, another is off of 9th Street across from CrossFit Greenville, and one is off of Clark Street behind the brewery. Carpooling is recommended! For more City of Greenville parking information, please visit HERE.

After the conference concludes, attendees can sign up for optional repository tours.

There is no cost to attend a repository tour, and you will sign up during conference registration.

Before the conference, you will receive more information on specific times and where to meet.

Space is limited, and once capacity is reached, attendees will be added to the waitlist.

Conference Workshops

10am-1pm @ Joyner Library, ECU

SNCA will offer three workshops this year on Thursday, May 22, 2025, as part of the conference. The workshops will all take place at ECU’s Joyner Library.

Separate registration is required, but the cost is included with your conference registration, so you must already be registered for the conference in order to register for a workshop.

Attendees may choose one of the following to attend:

WORKSHOP #1 - 10am - 1pm (3 hours)

Primary Source Instruction for Non-Teachers: How to Create Sessions that are Engaging and Successful

Instructors: Kristen Daniel, Special Collections & Outreach Librarian at East Carolina University’s Joyner Library and Elliott Kuecker, Teaching Assistant Professor at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Description: Primary source instruction is a reality that many of us face working with archives. It has become a great way to introduce people to the archives and serve a variety of communities. Even so, many archival professionals were never trained to be teachers. The goal of this workshop is to give you the tools you need to thrive in the instructional setting, not just survive. This workshop will walk you through instructional skills such as lesson planning, activity design, lesson delivery, and assessment. In the end, you'll walk away with the confidence to succeed as a primary source instructor!

Location:  Rotunda Room, 4th Floor

WORKSHOP #2 - 10am - 1pm (3 hours)

How to Connect the Docs: Why your Archives Needs a Podcast

Instructors: Annabeth Poe, Assistant Oral Historian, Division of Archives and Records at the NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources with co-instruction from the Podcast Team from the State Archives of NC

Description: Join members of the team of archivists and historians behind Connecting the Docs: True Stories from the Old North State, the State Archives of North Carolina’s podcast, as they detail how to use archival collections to tell important historical stories. Learn how the State Archives established a podcast with a mission to increase archival accessibility through narrative storytelling. Listen as the team shares lessons they’ve learned over five successful seasons while they teach the skills you’ll need to create your own archival podcast to engage patrons by giving voice to the records.

Started in 2019 and recently surpassing 11,000 listens, Connecting the Docs details stories from the Archives’ collections to teach diverse state history. The podcast has covered everything from governor ghost stories to Revolutionary War soldiers to unprocessed collections about state trails. In addition to covering historical topics, the podcast showcases internship work, details archival processes, and includes collaborations with scholars and public historians across the state.

Location: Room 2049

WORKSHOP #3 - 10am - 12pm (2 hours)

Resume Review Service

Description: Attendees can bring their CVs/resumes and SNCA members will review and give advice on cover letters.

Location: Faulkner Gallery

PLEASE NOTE: Workshops are *only* available for in-person ticket types. Virtual attendees do not have access to workshops.
