PROFILE

Society Committees

Each committee chair is charged with forming a new committee every May at the beginning of the Society’s new year. These are the Society's committees, though Chairs may choose not to fill a committee:

  • Archives Month Committee: Facilitates the celebration of Archives Month every October, including posters and other forms of publicity materials that archives can use; events to celebrate archivists and archival holdings; a declaration from the sitting governor celebrating the event; and other celebrations of archives and archivists across N.C.
  • Development Committee: Assists in raising funds that support the annual conference and the various awards that the Society confers. Also promotes the Michelle Francis Endowment and administers the scholarship in her name as well as the Thornton W. Mitchell Service Award.
  • Education Committee: Organizes workshops across the year and especially as part of the annual conference. Also promotes and administers scholarships and awards, C. David Jackson Memorial Scholarship and the Gene J. Williams Awards; and possibly grants to student groups for archives-related events, as requested.
  • Electronic Resources Committee: Supports the maintenance and effectiveness of the Society electronic resources, including the website, listserv, and documentation.
  • Membership Committee: Coordinates social outings, mixers, or other member events and undertakes membership recruitment efforts.
  • Nominations Committee: Assists the Nominations Chair, currently the past-president or a recent past-president, in filling the elections slate that is presented every spring to SNCA members.
  • Publications Committee: Consists of a managing editor for the Journal of the Society of N.C. Archivists, published annually, and editorial board members; also manages the Society's social media presence.

Each annual conference functions with input from all the committees; the following committees are instrumental to its existence:

  • Program Committee: Led by the Vice President, the Program Committee organizes the intellectual content of the annual conference. They provide the theme, facilitate poster and session proposals, and organize the structure of the conference days.
  • Local Arrangements Committee: This committee facilitates the in-person aspects of the annual conference, providing local information and on-the-ground help as needed. Optimally members are local to or very familiar with the conference area.

The Treasurer may also appoint an Assistant Treasurer to assist with their duties and ensure continuity.
